Sentencing Memorandum filed on behalf of Anthony Weiner
This 71-page Sentencing Memorandum was filed in the U.S. District Court for the S.D.N.Y. on September 13, 2017 by Covington & Burling, LLP on behalf of Defendant Anthony Weiner, who pled guilty to a one-count information charging a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1470, which prohibits “knowingly transfer[ing] obscene matter to another individual who has not attained the age of 16 years, knowing that such other individual has not attained the age of 16 years, or attempt[ing] to do so.” In this Sentencing Memorandum, counsel argued the the imposition of “a sentence of probation with special conditions of supervised release, including continued treatment of the kind recommended by Dr. Shoshanna Must, a court-appointed evaluator, and community service, would be ‘sufficient, but not greater than necessary,’ to accomplish the goals of sentencing, without disrupting the remarkable progress Anthony has made in addressing his once debilitating mental illness and rebuilding his life in service to others, including his son. See 18 U.S.C. § 3553(a).”
